Engaging community networks to counteract tobacco industry interference: TOT program for young persons in Horape
Hasith Sandaruwan, who completed the first phase of the short course “Investigating tobacco industry interference on public health policies and actions”, successfully commenced the second phase in early May 2026.
A Training of Trainers (TOT) program for 30 young persons, including members of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Society and Human Values Development Organisation in Gampaha District, was conducted at the Horape Community Hall. During the training, multiple discussions on tobacco industry interference were facilitated, and participants explored how to engage members of Shramdana societies in different Grama Niladari areas in Gampaha district, to monitor tobacco advertisements and promotions and to report them to TU hotspots.
