CCT investigative research findings highlighted at the Global Public Health Summit 2025 in Colombo

The Global Public Health Summit 2025 and 30th Annual Academic Sessions of the College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka (CCPSL) were held in Colombo from 13th to 16th July 2025.

Ms. Chinthika Perera and Mr. P. Dineshkumar presented two abstracts showcasing key investigative research findings conducted by the Centre for Combating Tobacco (CCT). The presented posters titled;

  1. Promoting Tobacco Industry image in Sri Lanka: Below the line strategies used by Public Relations Industry
  2. Tobacco Industry using Illicit Cigarette Trade to their Advantage: Examples from Sri Lanka

In addition, Dr. Manuja Perera, Editor CCT, was a panelist in the plenary session titled “Substance Use and Public Health: Bridging Gaps through Policy, Practice, and Partnerships”, organised by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB). Dr. Manuja Perera spoke about “Prohibited tobacco products, nicotine addiction and related industry tactics”, highlighting CCT research on the matter. In the panel discussion, she stressed the importance of keeping up with the global strategies on “Tobacco Endgame”, highlighting the industry tactics that should be countered to do so.
