A group discussion with the youth group in Bandarawela to counteract the tobacco industry’s strategies

Shashika Wijesundara, who successfully completed the first phase of the short course “Investigating tobacco industry interference on public health policies and actions”, successfully commenced the second phase in May 2026.

She initiated the series of online discussions with a group of young people who completed the GCE Ordinary Level examination in Bandarawela. During these online discussions, the participants shared their insights with their peers and all together engaged in exploring the factors affecting tobacco use in their communities and the tobacco industry strategies that led to it. On the 27th May, a review of these processes was conducted as a one-on-one discussion with the participants and many important points that they discovered were discussed.
